Mudeford Sandbank
Mudeford Spit Beach offers one of Dorset's most unique coastal experiences, accessible only by a scenic 20-minute walk along the harbour wall, a charming ferry ride, or the seasonal land train from Mudeford Quay. This narrow sand and shingle spit extends into Christchurch Harbour, creating a wild and windswept landscape where visitors can enjoy both harbour and open sea beaches on either side of the peninsula. The area is famous for its colorful beach huts, which have no road access and must be reached on foot, creating an exclusive retreat atmosphere where owners transport supplies by wheelbarrow or bike. The spit's remote location makes it a haven for wildlife, particularly migrating birds and seals, while its exposed position offers excellent conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing, though swimmers should be cautious of strong currents where the harbour meets the sea.
