St Andrews West Sands Beach
Dogs are not allowed on the part of the beach nearest the town between the 1st of May and 30th September
This magnificent 2-mile stretch of golden sand is where the ancient meets the sublime, backed by the world-famous Old Course at St Andrews. West Sands offers exhilarating walks with the North Sea breeze in your hair, while the dunes provide shelter for picnics and contemplation. The beach featured memorably in Chariots of Fire's opening sequence, and it's easy to see why - the expansive shoreline creates a sense of freedom that's both invigorating and humbling. Strong currents make swimming challenging, but the beach excels for jogging, dog walking, and simply absorbing the raw beauty of Scotland's east coast. The nearby town provides excellent dining and accommodation options.
