This spectacular three-mile crescent of golden sand has earned numerous accolades including being voted Britain's best beach multiple times, and it's easy to see why with its perfect combination of consistent Atlantic swells that attract surfers from across Europe and expansive sandy shores that delight families seeking traditional seaside fun. The beach's unique geography, sheltered by the dramatic headlands of Baggy Point and Morte Point, creates ideal conditions for both beginners learning to surf at the southern end and experienced wave riders tackling the more challenging breaks toward Putsborough, while the vast expanse of sand at low tide provides endless space for beach games, sandcastle competitions, and long romantic walks. The beach's Blue Flag status confirms its excellent water quality and environmental management, lifeguards patrol the main areas during summer months ensuring safety for swimmers and surfers alike, and the surrounding North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty provides spectacular coastal walks including the challenging but rewarding climb to the top of Baggy Point for breathtaking panoramic views across the Bristol Channel to Lundy Island and the Welsh coast beyond.
