A La Ronde
Reviews
A pleasant visit to A la Ronde. We were there for about 3 Hours , enjoying the scenery and views and having the guided tour, it's worth doing the tour first. The house although small was very interesting. The pop up cafe was good. You could have a much shorter visit if you were pushed for time.
Very cozy house full of arts, stories and inspiration! Volunteers make you feel very welcome here and tell you about every bit of this gorgeous place. Nice garden to have afternoon tea or cup of coffee.
Very unusual building with a fascinating history. Certainly worth a visit. The setting and views across the Exe estuary are amazing. Staff and volunteers are incredibly helpful. There was a catering van onsite for basic refreshments, Some seating available inside if the weather is inclement. No proper NT shop, just second hand books.
What a delightfully unique property! A La Ronde is a fascinating 16-sided house near Exmouth, full of charm, quirky history, and creativity. Built in the 18th century by two spinster cousins after a Grand Tour of Europe, every room reflects their love of travel, art, and storytelling. The shell gallery (sadly only viewable via a live video feed to protect it) is a true marvel — thousands of shells meticulously arranged in intricate patterns. The house is full of curious features: triangular rooms, original furnishings, and a beautiful central octagon. Managed by the National Trust, the property is well presented, with helpful volunteers and plenty of interesting information throughout. The gardens are peaceful, and the views across the Exe Estuary are lovely. Perfect for a gentle day out with a mix of architecture, history, and character. A true hidden gem in Devon — don’t miss it!
A La Ronde is out of the way but well worth visiting as it is such a special building odd in shape but that just adding to it pleasure as it is full of mystery and the views are really nice too.
