Beer Caves are well worth a visit! Our guide was Jill, and we caught the last tour before they temporarily close for the filming of Masters of the Universe film, so a proper Hollywood film location! Jill was amazing, giving us the full and detailed tour. We even did a vocals session to hear the sound amplify in the echo-y chamber. Well worth a visit, child and dog friendly. It is cold so wear a thick coat.

Dave was our guide yesterday and he was amazing! He was very interesting to listen to and a mind full of knowledge to pass on to us as we walked in the quarry caves. I highly recommend a visit

This is an excellent tour of the cave workings that were carved out of solid rock by the Romans, then the Saxons and the Normans right up until the 1800’s. It’s all because the high quality of the limestone seam here, which has very few impurities and so has been used in many cathedrals and churches around the country. The roof constantly drips water but you do wear a hard hat. It’s chilly too, so wear something warm. It’s not a tour for children as they would get bored quickly, but great for adults interested in history or geology. We did get to see some hibernating bats who are now arriving in the caves for the winter and so the caves now close from November through to next spring.

We have been meaning to go here for a while and this year we made it, well worth the visit and tour around the quarry. A really interesting tour conducted by Martin, who took us around around and told us about its history and stories. Tour took about 1 hour and a half. Wrap up warm as it is cool whilst on the tour. Don't forget to call ahead and book on a tour.

I highly recommend this if you are in the area. Gill was our tour guide and she was very entertaining and knowledgeable. We phoned the day before to book. The history of the quarry was really interesting. It's a good idea to wear a few layers because it was quite cold when you get inside.
