Margate Caves is an underground attraction with a history dating back to 1863, featuring a chalk tunnel adorned with cave paintings and murals from Georgian times. It has been used for various purposes, including a gentleman's den, air raid shelter and Victorian tourist attraction, and was recently restored and reopened in 2019 with a café, gift shop, community and conference facilities. It offers an interesting mix of landscape, ecology, geology and anthropology, allowing visitors to explore Margate's heritage and community.

Staff and volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable not only about the caves but about the surrounding areas. The caves were great with the added bonus of the space theme which we all loved. Great little gift shop and cafe. Well worth a visit.
What a place to find in your basement?! Definitely worth a short visit if you're in the area. If you can see it out of season, it's much more tranquil and almost calming to the soul when you're down there. So peaceful! Car parking less than a minute away!
Fantastic piece of Margate History hidden in plain sight! Well worth £5.00 each, Me & my wife loved it! Staff friendly & very helpful & up for any questions asked!
Angela was a fantastic and very knowledgeable volunteer guide down in the caves. Had a great chat. Caves were very interesting and the facilities above ground were all clean and top notch. All the staff were lovely and very friendly. Only £5 each for adults! We were probably there 2 hours but we like to read everything and absorb it all so most people can probably get round it in about an hour tops. Would REALLY recommend a visit!
Visited Margate caves whilst in the area and was pleasantly surprised with our experience. We got a map and when we entered the caves there were informative guides too tell you details and answer any questions. Would recommend a visit 👌
