Old Kent Market

This pink building looked interesting from the outside, but it wasn't obvious what was inside so we went to look. There are outlets and stalls. On the top floor it's mainly crafts stores. On the bottom floor is a bus and various takeaway places that do things like pizza and poké. There's even a pub. Not much was open on a Tuesday afternoon in early June. We did want to try some goods from the bakery, but it seems to be closed and a new one is taking its place. Not sure if that means no more of the hot cross buns other reviewers mention. The Old Kent Market is a charming little spot right next to Margate beach. It looks great from the outside, with a few benches out front to sit and enjoy the view. Inside, it’s spread over two floors, though I was expecting it to be a bit bigger. There are a few places to grab a bite — like a bakery, some takeaway stalls, and a quirky bus café. There’s a communal seating area in the middle, but it can feel a bit cramped during busy times. Lots of interesting little shops selling unique items like handmade jewellery and vintage-style clothing. Overall, a nice visit, but a bit disappointing as I was hoping for a bit more variety and space.
Great little find with several small businesses selling food drinks and odds and ends. Particularly indulgent and delicious cookies from cookie man - recommend!
In short - a delightful gem of a food market situated just outside Margate Old town. Longer review: Clearly this venue is a hive of activity with many locals and tourists buying into the rich variety of food on offer. I noticed Asian, Greek, pizza and pastries - not to mention the micro pubs found inside. The atmosphere seems electric and there is a certain buzz about the place you can’t help but notice. Upstairs there are also small boutiques selling clothes and other curiosities. Would give this place 5 stars - but it does seem quite pricey for what’s on offer!
I felt lucky to visit this quirky little gem in Margate with my family. We had a pram so stayed just for food (couldn't use the stairs to go up to the shops), but even then we had a nice time taking in all the beautiful little details of the place. The hot dog joint, Daisy's Dogs, was amazing! My husband ate at the poke place and said it was great as well. I don't agree with another reviewer about variety and price–I personally felt there was a lot of variety and prices were affordable, but I do agree that space was limited. Still it gives it in an intimate and special feel that I think would be harder to do with a bigger space. Definitely worth a visit!
