Whalebone Arch
Reviews
This was our photo stop before going to the Abbey. This is a popular tourist destination, busy at any time. The arch, the statue and the harbor views were remarkable.
Jaw bones of blue whale is an amazing stop in Whitby from where you can enjoy more than half of Whitby town views such as harbour, the 199 steps, ruins of the Abbey, beach light house etc. The real whale bone arch was erected in 1853 when this town was fishing whale. This whale jaw bones arch is replica of really one which Norway made it for Whitby 1963 and real ones in Whitby Archives & Heritage Centre. The last replica was donated by Alaska in 2003.
Just when you think Whitby can’t get quirkier, you stumble upon a giant pair of whale jawbones forming an arch! This arch was a nod to Whitby’s history as a whaling town.
great place to view the whalebone and out to the seaview parking was possible but didn't take cash or card had to ring a number to register to park or you can download a app to pay your parking
An iconic sight at the top of the hill. Well worth the climb up to see the views over Whitby and the arch and the statue to Captain Cook.
