Lovely little museum that is packed full of interesting and wonderful artifacts. We loved looking at the vintage toys! Admission for kids is free and it is inexpensive for adults, admissions gets you an annual pass for free entry for the year.
Whitby is always a fabulous place to visit and when better than on a sunny Spring day? Whitby Museum is set within Pannett Park and its stunning gardens, overlooking this lovely town. Once inside the museum you are spoilt for choice in terms of exhibits, information and artefacts. The museum features many aspects of Whitby's fascinating history: fossils, Captain Cook, ship building, Whitby jet, brave war heroes, natural history, navigation and more. You could easily spend the whole day, immersing yourself in fascinating facts! The current special exhibition is based on the many famous and incredible Women of Whitby. Writers, business women, actors, suffragists, boat captains, fisherwomen ... for me this was a most informative display and revealed many of the town's inspirational ladies!
We made a special trip to visit the museum after it was closed on the day we initially visited (Monday) and I’m so glad we did. The staff were lovely and welcoming. I’ve seen others saying the price is steep but I completely disagree - compared to other local attractions such as the abbey (which came to nearly £50 for 2 adults and a child) I would say the museum is much better value for money, it also includes 12 months access. Theres a wide range of eclectic displays in a compact space, all locally grounded. I spent a fair amount of money in the gift shop but I didn’t find anything over priced - most things purchased were beautifully made by a local small businesses. We’re not local but will 100% visit again in the future if/when we’re in the area.
Great museum packed full of interesting things. Nice cafe downstairs and a lovely park to walk round outside
A cute little museum with some interesting exhibits. We whittled some time away on a rainy morning here. The museum was quiet and staff were friendly. There are a lot of exhibits crammed in together so it’s a lot to take in. A few little activities for younger children to do at the start (jigsaw and crossword).
